Kalevan Navetta will celebrate Independence Day with an open to all Independence Day preparty on Friday, December 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.! The cultural center will offer a programme suitable for many target groups during the event. The event is free of charge. You can view the detailed programme HERE.
Kunsthalle programme
11 a.m.–8 p.m. Free admission Friday, free admission to art exhibitions (exhibition spaces Halli, 2nd floor & Vintti, 3rd floor)
In the Vintti exhibition space, Still I Rise group exhibition is on display, and in the Halli exhibition space, Tiina Laasonen’s exhibition I Know a Tree That Grew Up is on display.
5–5:45 p.m. Guided tour of the exhibition I Know a Tree That Grew Up in sign language (exhibition space Halli, 2nd floor)
Guided tour of Tiina Laasonen’s exhibition in Finnish sign language. Both sign language users and hearing people can participate in the tour. At the end of the tour, the participants will have a chance to touch and smell the wood materials used in the exhibition with the help of a guide. Free admission.
Kunsthalle Seinäjoki’s art exhibitions:
Tiina Laasonen: I Know a Tree That Grew Up (exhibition space Halli, 2nd floor)
The exhibition deals with memory and memories, and their connection to human identity. The artist explores the theme through large wooden sculptures. What kind of emotional bond can form between a tree and a human being? The exhibition features a wide range of different tree species that the artist received as donations from people to make art out of.
Sarah Nakiito & Liisa-Irmelen Liwata: Still I Rise (exhibition space Vintti, 3rd floor)
The exhibition deals with survival and the political and social environment associated with it. The artists have explored the theme through their own working methods. How do historical events and our own past affect our resilience and the formation of our identity? The exhibition invites viewers to reflect and seek change.
Arrival at Kalevan Navetta
Address: Nyykoolinkatu 25, 60100 Seinäjoki. The main entrance to the building is located on the courtyard side between Kalevan Navetta and the Itikanmäki residential buildings. You can reach Kalevan Navetta on foot or by bike via Vaasantie or along the Lakeuden aamunkoi bridge crossing Pohjan valtatie.
There are approximately 50 parking spaces for customers around Kalevan Navetta. The first two (2) hours are free with a ticket from the ticket machine or parking app, and subsequent hours cost €1/hour. The nearest public parking area is located on Maakunnankatu, about 700 meters from the building. On busy event days, we recommend using other means of transportation instead of a car or parking your car in the Maakunnankatu parking area if necessary.
